performance piece

  1. I really like your piece for reasons that were already stated in class by others, but one thing I'm curious about is why you chose to have the timing slightly off on the two videos instead of in sync?

  2. I decided to make it out of sync for a few reasons. The lengths of the recordings are not the same, and I had to make cuts in the clip on the clip on the left (whereas the clip on the right is just a straight recording). I also thought it was more visually interesting. I, personally, would have gotten pretty bored watching almost eight minute if they matched up perfectly (at least in this vid, not saying it couldn't be done effectively). And lastly, i think it adds to the sense of process and viewer discomfort/stress, because s/he has to strain to keep track of what's going on in both frames. Thanks for the question :)

Great work Nick. I love the camera's following nature. Your work kept me thinking "how did he do that?!". You really capture a cold feeling, and rather mechanical, to the piece. Probably experimenting with monitors would of served good as well which, as you know, Nauman used in the Public/ Private space installation. R.T
