Video Diaries

The first video diary that I found was created by a group of college age guys who run a production company called wangfu. The video is around seven minutes long and they talk about going to chipotle and then subsequently about dating if it were more like chipotle. The producers assumption that this video would be interesting to an outsider and his placement of importance on the subject is inherently narcissistic.

The second video that I found was created by a guy that creates movies about things that have "scarred" him. For the entirety of the movie he talks about when he first started making out and how it scarred him.

I've come to the conclusion that video diaries and any type of video put up on youtube that the person spends the majority of the time talking about issues within his or her own life is narcissistic. I think that it is the presumption that what you have to say is important that makes it so narcissistic.

Great work Nick. I love the camera's following nature. Your work kept me thinking "how did he do that?!". You really capture a cold feeling, and rather mechanical, to the piece. Probably experimenting with monitors would of served good as well which, as you know, Nauman used in the Public/ Private space installation. R.T
