Narcissism (Sam)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnXk4r1YOzU&playnext=1&videos=sJDpVaGXT2g&feature=mfu_in_order

ok, i did what most of you guys probably did and typed in "narcissism" in to youtube. after surfing from video to video  i came across this guy. after watching the first video i watched of him (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6KBswUOrnQ&feature=related) i thought he was just poking fun at narcissism because he was addressing his narcissism so blatantly. but after watching his other videos, i realized that this guy was in fact very narcissistic. This guy is part of this youtube group called "project awesome." Yup. every video is just him talking of nothing in particular, just him talking to the camera about nothing. the filming itself is very narcissistic, but on top of that he has to edit these nonsensical videos. Some videos do not have dialog and even less of a structure. yes these videos are funny, but i definitely think his reasoning behind these videos has to do with his need of attention and self-reassurance.

  1. WOW. This video was just sort of annoying.
Believe me I absolutely love YouTube and I think it is a great way to get peoples ideas, art and emotions out there for everyone to experience. BUT when everyone thinks they can be YouTube internet star it is sort of annoying. That video had 266 views. Does this guy really have that many followers on YouTube that he can giveaway 6 free cans of Coke? This is where the narcissism comes into play. Obviously this guy thinks people want to watch him on the internet. All I know is that I sure as heck don't. That video wasn't even slightly entertaining for me. Just saying. OK I'm done being harsh. Good video pick Sam

  2. This guy obviously seems to have staged most of what he is doing but it his hard to tell whether some of this is genuine or not. But it is for certain that the nature of his videos and the fact that he posts them onto youtube thinking that they might be entertaining to some reveals a certain level of narcissitic thought. -Charles Finklea

Great work Nick. I love the camera's following nature. Your work kept me thinking "how did he do that?!". You really capture a cold feeling, and rather mechanical, to the piece. Probably experimenting with monitors would of served good as well which, as you know, Nauman used in the Public/ Private space installation. R.T
