Charlemagne Palestine Responce

  1. I like the layering; it seems to be a theme with your work. And it sort of reminds me of the stop animation used in Gumby, etc.

  2. With this video I was trying to capture the ritualistic nature of Charlemagne's performances as well as how he is able to transform a space. Most of Charlemagne's videos are about playing with sound, because I am not very musically gifted I tried to reinterpret one of his experiments with sound visually. This is a take on Palestine's Strumming Music (1974) where he takes two notes and keeps on coupling and layering them with other notes.

  3. I agree. The layering was pretty cool, and very reminiscent of stopmotion animation. The contrast of your facial expression with all the festive props is very interesting, too. Steph.

  4. Coleen I love it. This is very good. You can't help but to focus on you with the white background and the only color that shows up is that around you and the things you put on. Very good video. I like the originality and creativity. -Charles Finklea

  5. Like I said in class I really like this video and I think that the fast cuts are very effective. If this piece were a couple minutes longer I think that it would be perfect and would really feel like someone pounding the video into your brain.

  6. I like this video a lot, I think you were really creative with the adding of pieces throughout the video. I also thought it was funny you said you got all those items from your room. You must have a crazy room!

Great work Nick. I love the camera's following nature. Your work kept me thinking "how did he do that?!". You really capture a cold feeling, and rather mechanical, to the piece. Probably experimenting with monitors would of served good as well which, as you know, Nauman used in the Public/ Private space installation. R.T
