I thought the idea behind this piece was really good. Being that I think the movie was based off of something at Denison or the writers of the film went to Denison. I'm not sure someone correct me here if I'm wrong. Anyways I thought the piece was just kind of blah. The intentions I could tell were very good. But the presentation just sort of didn't do it for me. It just seemed like you were showing a movie on the wall of a building, nothing was really changed from just watching that scene in the film from what you projected. I definitely would have liked to see you do something with it. Like maybe a compare and contrast of the Delta Chi house to Beta or something like that. Just to sort of make it your own.
So obviously I wasn't able to be there for the actual presentation and thus have not seen the the video, but it in the picture it LOOKS like a scene from ancient Greece - in which case it's kind of cool that you have it projected on one of the Greek houses. I'm not sure what message you were going for since I haven't seen the piece ,but it might have been cool if you could have metaphorically 'opened' up the greek house you were projected on, and shown the character of greek life today. Forgive me if this is totally off-base, haha...:)
The idea here is good, and I like the fact that it is related so closely to Denison, and that house in particular. Location wise the piece has a lot of possibility. We had talked about you selecting one portion of the movie (animal house), slowing it down, removing something from the scene, etc. Without making it more your own, it lacks oomph. Some good idea from your peers about how to make it more interesting.
Agreed. It's a good base idea, but the execution left much to be desired. Editing the clip or perhaps even projecting multiple clips onto different buildings on North Quad could have made it more original and more your on; something beyond showing someone else's film. I could definitely see this being built upon for your final. -Nick
Very interesting idea. I love how you are referencing the wild party days of Denison's past, however I feel like there is something lacking. Maybe adding a performative aspect to the piece, like have a bunch of people rush out of beta house in togas. Transporting the viewer back in time and transforming the physical space around beta house.
I liked your piece because i saw the contrast between how denison used to be (party school) and what it is now ( a school doing its best to party) I agree that just showing the scene by itself was a little mundane, but the idea shows potential.
Great work Nick. I love the camera's following nature. Your work kept me thinking "how did he do that?!". You really capture a cold feeling, and rather mechanical, to the piece. Probably experimenting with monitors would of served good as well which, as you know, Nauman used in the Public/ Private space installation. R.T
